SHARES
Sharing Hope and Resources in El Dorado County and Surrounding Areas
Mission Statement
The SHARES Ministry will demonstrate God's love by extending our church beyond the
pews and into local communities through a variety of projects and partnerships to
alleviate human need and suffering.
Many members of our congregation volunteer numerous hours at a variety of worthy
programs throughout the El Dorado region. The SHARES Ministry encourages members
of our church community to continue in their individual efforts to reach out to
those in need. We are providing additional avenues to do so. Rolling Hills Christian
Church has officially partnered with the following organizations to fulfill the
SHARES mission statement.
POWERHOUSE
MINISTRIES
opened the POWERHOUSE Transition Center, the only homeless shelter
in Folsom, in 2004. The Transition Center offers supervised overnight lodging, showers,
and three meals daily for men, women, and children. Clients are required to commit
to a day program including counseling and classes. A case manager is also provided
to help each person set transitional goals and work towards independence. The Center
can house up to 20 people at a time. Clients must remain sober and keep their transition
commitments to stay at the shelter. School age children are required to attend school.
Assistance with school clothes, tutoring, and homework is also provided. Powerhouse's
goal is to see these people change their circumstances and move into transformed
productive lives.
Furniture for Families is a community based, nonprofit, all volunteer, privately
supported, free furniture bank dedicated to providing good, usable furniture to
those in need. Opportunities for support include volunteer participation as well
as contribution of usable furniture.
Genesis Missionary Baptist Church
Through a partnership with our sister church in Sacramento, Genesis Missionary Baptist
Church, we are providing clean clothing, in good repair, to meet the needs of the
less fortunate in the Sacramento area. In addition to clothing donations, items
such as children's toys, books, small "working" appliances, cooking utensils and
even some electronics are accepted. If you would like to donate an electrical appliance,
please check with Sue Reed (see calendar for contact information). You are welcome
to volunteer at the Genesis distribution.
The Master's Hand
Through this ministry, Rolling Hills Christian Church will assist the frail and
elderly by partnering with the El Dorado County Care Management Services Linkages/MSSP
Programs. These programs help people who require assistance due to illness,
injury or disability to live independently in their own home. The Master's
Hand Ministry will extend help with household repairs, light construction projects,
home safety modifications, etc. This ministry is also available to those in
need within our own congregation. This ministry needs not only volunteers
with various construction backgrounds but also those with a heart to serve that
are handy and comfortable working with tools.
Food
Bank of El Dorado County
On a daily basis, the Food Bank solicits, receives, warehouses, and distributes
donated food within El Dorado County. Rolling Hills Christian Church joins the Food
Bank of El Dorado County in the fight to end hunger. Our church will serve as a
monthly food distribution site to help those who face hunger in El Dorado Hills
secure nutritionally adequate food. In addition, our congregation is encouraged
to bring non-perishable food donations to the church every second Sunday of
the month and place them in the RHCC bins (The bins are located near
the donut table) . Non-perishable food donations can also be dropped off at
the SHARES shed in the RHCC barrel.
Big Brothers Big Sisters' School Mentoring Program
Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Dorado County provides caring and supportive volunteers to serve as
mentors to youth in need of a friend and positive human contact. There
are many children, age 7 to 14, waiting for a mentor at elementary and
middle schools in El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, and Placerville. The
need is great and the rewards are powerful. You can make a "BIG"
difference by spending only 45 minutes a week with a child at the
school site during the lunch hour on any day you pick!
In addition to the above organizations which offer opportunities for ongoing support
throughout the year, SHARES sponsors the following seasonal programs:
Angel Tree
Rolling Hills has made a seasonal commitment to Angel Tree since 1999. Members of
our congregation purchase and deliver Christmas gifts to children in the name of
their prisoner-parent, and share the Gospel. It allows children to feel their parent's
love despite their absence.
Join us on this fall day as members of the RHCC congregation volunteer in their
communities to work on special projects to help meet the needs of private individuals,
charitable organizations, and public entities. More information about GREAT DAY
OF SERVICE will be provided on this web page as well as at RHCC as we near the season.
SHARES CALENDAR
In addition to the regular service opportunities you will find below, there are several occasional events where your loving
support is greatly appreciated. Please visit the
